Camaiore

Wioska Camaiore mieści się w dolinie otoczonej przez wzgórza i północne pasmo Apeninów. Camaiore wywodzi się z czasów rzymskich, kiedy to pełniło funkcję jednego z największych obozów wojskowych w okolicy Lukki oraz ważnej bazy wojskowej przy drodze Via Cassia. Geneza nazwy Camaiore pochodzi od obozu "Campus Maior".

W czasach średniowiecznych miasteczko dość mocno się rozrosło dzięki starej drodze Via Francigena. Miasto, nazwane Campmaior przez Arcybiskupa Canterbury, reprezentowało dwudziesty siódmy etap podróży Sigerico Canterbury.

Dziś miasto wypełnione jest wieloma artystycznymi skarbami, wśród których znajdziemy kościół kolegiacki św. Piotra, będący opactwem benedyktyńskim, a dodatkowo we wiosce Pieve Camaiore mieści się kościół będący wspaniałym przykładem budownictwa romańskiego, datowany na rok 817 p.n.e.        

Okolice Camaiore są przepiękne i znane ze swoich krajobrazów oraz niewielkich wiosek, takich jak Monteggiori, Casoli, Gombitelli i Monteggiori. Z wiosek, mieszczących się głównie na zboczach wzgórz, mamy piękne widoki na morze i okoliczne wzgórza, co sprawia wrażenie, że czas zatrzymał się tu stulecia temu.
