    To prawdziwa gratka dla oddanych fanów etruskiej kultury ‒ równiny otaczające Cortonę usiane są starożytnymi grobowcami. Na dnie wzgórza Parco Archeologico del Sodo (Park Archeologiczny) wystawia na pokaz etruskie grobowce Sodo, w tym rzeźbiony ołtarz ofiarny. Zawartość wielu grobowców znajduje się obecnie w Museo dell’Accademia Etrusca, ale to tutaj mieszczą się ich oryginalne stanowiska. Tak zwane „Meloni” to starożytne etruskie kurhany znalezione w okolicy Sodo, tuż za Cortoną. Między VIII a IV wiekiem p.n.e., Etruria Propria rozkwitała jako konferedacja 12 państw-miast w środkowych Włoszech. W skład północnej Etrurii, zajmującej mniej-więcej obszar obecnej Toskanii, wchodziła Cortona, Arezzo, Chiusi, Populonia, Vetulonia i Volterra.
